so i read the book and i totally love it. such a good message. then, i flip over the book and there's a picture of the author. omg! this guy, shel silverstein is the scariest man that i've ever seen. i can't believe this guy wrote this book. why couldn't he have taken a better picture? check him out below. DAAAAMMMMNNNN.

i'd date him
yes he is. but doesn't it frighten you that the whole story of the giving tree turns out to be all about a passive/aggressive relationship? or doesn't the giving tree seem to have battered woman syndrome? or am i reading too much into the story...
you cracked me up! i tried not to showe his picture to the kids when i read his books... you're right, it's scary! try "the missing piece" sometimes; that's a good one too. but "the giving tree" is my all-time favorite! i gave one to ted when we were going out.
i knoooowww! we have that book too and i always wondered why they would want to scare off the kids with the blow up pic of the author. -foom
Ha! Ha! You are so funny! He does look scary!
So funny! You are right, he looks like a criminal!
Susan , your cousin
hi grace, i love that book! and i remember that picture freaking me out, too. why couldn't he have smiled or shaved? or at least make the picture really small.
testing...
looks like my original comment is lost... this is one of faves too. i made a point not to show my kids his picture when they were young; yes, he does look scary! you should get "the missing piece" next!!
